Nigerian Dwarf Goats
When we decided to bring our first animal animals (not chickens—sorry, ladies!) to A Little Hill Farm, we had specific requirements in mind. We wanted them to be small enough for even our youngest son to handle easily and that wouldn't need a livestock trailer for transport. Their appetites needed to be manageable to keep feed costs within our budget and fit our hay storage. Most importantly, we wanted animals we’d enjoy spending time with that could also provide us with milk for the fridge!
We found everything we were looking for and more in the Nigerian Dwarf breed. Their size is just right, feeding them is affordable, and with their friendly personalities and rich, creamy milk, they’re simply perfect!
We've surpassed the one-year milestone of goat ownership, and I confess, I'm hooked. Our herd has expanded from 5 to 14 goats, and I'd gladly welcome more, although my family might disagree! We've experienced our first breeding season, which was both challenging and delightful, and we're already planning for the next. My admiration has grown from "Oh, what a cute goat!" to "Look at her udder attachments!" and "What a perfectly beautiful topline!".
We're eager to share everything about these animals who have become part of our family. If you're considering starting your own herd or simply want to talk about goats, please get in touch!
